Wong's research focuses on the genetics of adaptation. He is particularly interested in investigating the consequences of genetic interactions (epistasis) for rates and patterns of molecular evolution, and in understanding the potentially non-adaptive consequences of natural selection.

The lab uses a variety of approaches to address these questions, including microbial experimental evolution, next-generation sequencing, and inference of historical evolutionary processes from comparative genomic and molecular population genetic data.
