Bio/Research

Tibbetts is an experienced journalist who spent more than two decades in daily news as a staff writer for newspapers and news agencies in Central, Eastern and Western Canada. She covered numerous beats, including the Supreme Court of Canada, federal politics, justice, Indigenous affairs and the Alberta and Nova Scotia legislatures. Her work has been published in dozens of newspapers and magazines across the country.

She left daily journalism in 2011 to pursue a dream of teaching and she has found that working with students is every bit as exhilarating as reporting.

Janice has taught courses on justice issues and courts, multimedia journalism and introductory and in-depth reporting.

Before becoming a Carleton faculty member, Janice taught for two years at Concordia University. Her courses included introductory reporting, journalism research and media law and ethics.

She currently serves on the board of The Glebe Report, the community newspaper in the Ottawa neighbourhood where she lives.
